In "Curious George Uses a Slow Cooker."

Ooh, a post right up my alley! Split Pea Soup--simple, delicious, and filling. This recipe is vegan, but I always substitute the potatoes & liquid smoke for a smoked ham hock, shredding the meat off of the bone after a few hours. And I add waaaaay more thyme. Use 8 cups of water to start and add more water later to your desired thickness: http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/2007/12/thick-and-hearty-split-pea-soup.html Pork Roast with Apples & Sauerkraut--so freakin' easy: http://www.recipezaar.com/Crock-Pot-Pork-Roast-with-Apples-and-Sauerkraut-81930 Jambalaya! I make this one a lot during the winter: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/robin-miller/slow-cooker-jambalaya-recipe/index.html

In "Crayola colours "

I clicked over to the Wikipedia entry for Crayola and was surprised to see all of the cool, different types of crayon colors that have come and gone since I stopped using crayons around 1980. I would've LOVED the "Silver Swirls" crayons or the "Color Mix-Up" set when I was a kid! I now have a strong urge to go buy Crayolas and color away this rainy Sunday. . .

In "Know Your Meme: Om Nom Nom Nom."

The very first LOLcat type stuff I ever saw was a bunch of photos from someone on Monkeyfilter many years ago. I'm forgetting his handle! 'Twas a British fella who was a very popular contributor at that time (2004?). Whenever I see a "nom nom nom" photo, I think of him.

In "Curious George:"

I check in every day and have for the past many years. I just don't post or comment much. But I am here!

In "Cyriak's Meow Mix"

Okay, that is one trippy cat video to wake up to when hungover. Wow.

In "PingWire"

That's incredibly hypnotic.

It is awesome! Now can someone explain to this American what the "azza" references are and what "chucking a sickie" means?

In "Happy Fourth of July!"

Here in Seattle, the fireworks show score always plays some Jimi Hendrix. For a few years in the 1990s, there was a rumor that special fireworks were going to be deployed that would burst into the shape of Jimi's face! Never happened.

In "Ladies and Gentlemen - start planning your next vacation"

This is really cool, polychrome, thanks! Friends of mine just went to the Studio Ghbibli Museum a few weeks ago and said it was awesome. The photos they took were incredible.

In "One person's exhaustive attempt to gather into one website all the menstruation ads ever done."

Bravo! This collection is unbelievable! I enjoyed it, as did my Aunt Flo.

In "Curious George: Moving Day"

Howdy from Seattle! Or at least the Seattle area! I can give you any info you need on neighborhoods, renting, transportation, etc. So when you say neighborhoods to avoid, define "avoid." Do you mean which ones are the rough neighborhoods or which ones are the super pricey neighborhoods? ;) There is an IKEA, it's about a 20-30 minute drive south of downtown Seattle proper, depending on traffic.

In "World War II: the simple version."

I love this. I think everything should be explained in cartoon format.

In "In July 2008, these two Jack Russell terriers"

I just had to do the kilogram to pounds conversion and was shocked to see that the one dog weighed 65 lbs!! Holy kibble, Batman! I'm so glad they're being taken care of properly now.

In "Curious Snowed-in George:"

Chiming in late here, Seattle has been socked in by unprecedented big snow. I measured the snow on the back deck last night and came up with 9.5"! The entire region is pretty much shut down. I have severe cabin fever after 5 days. Send drinks.

They should do one for Toby McGuire now!

In "OBAMA WON"

I am just stunned. Not only did Obama win, but every single Really Important Person/Initiative/Prop that I voted on in this state (Washington) went my way! My jaw is on the floor! OMG PONIES!!!1!

In "Unofficial Official America 2008 Election Wrap-Up."

I just voted at the nearby senior citizen complex. I love voting there! And man, did it feel good to darken that oval next to Obama's name. My ballot was so dreamy! I just stood and stared adoringly at it for a little while.

In "Curious George: Neighborhood Ethics?"

It could be that his personality has changed due to an onset of dementia--oftentimes, the personality changes are for the worse, involving screaming and odd behavior (like the barking). If this is the case, the wife may just be putting up with it because she feels sorry for him, realizing that it's the dementia. It still doesn't make it right, though, and yes, as a neighbor, you should take action. You would if it were a child--why is an adult any different? Call an Elder Abuse Hotline and see if they can steer you in the right direction for this particular situation. Here is a list of all the hotlines for each state.

In "Disney covers."

Song of the South is considered much too racist these days and Disney refuses to release it ever again, supposedly. Which is B.S., in my opinion. I see they have no problem with releasing Peter Pan on DVD. Is the song "What Makes the Red Man Red?" somehow less racist than the happy slaves on the plantation--I mean, if they're gonna go down that road and all . . .
