http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/recipe_views/views/101577 The perfect thing for a summer evening, when you don't want to heat up the kitchen! The first one and this one use the traditional chick-peas and lemon juice; the third one uses black beans and lime juice. They're all divine.
  • Let's Try That Again... The first one and this one use the traditional chick-peas and lemon juice; the third one uses black beans and lime juice. They're all divine.
  • Hummus is the food of the Gods - of this there can be no doubt. I'll be giving this black bean one a try. Cheers!
  • Cannelini or fava beans are good too. Mmmm.
  • Hummus, hummous, hommos, humus. Me and myself love us some hummus. Especially with roasted peppers. Also perfect for a Halloween evening.
  • and hommous
  • I advise steering clear of humus, as horse doovers go.
  • Trader Joe's makes a hummus with horseradish that is to die for.
  • Yum, and it looks like it should all be low-fat, too.
  • I loves me some hummus. I advise adding as much fresh garlic as possible.
  • Just one question. If as in this one, the oven is preheated to 350F, how does this avoid heating up the kitchen? Oven in the basement perhaps? Ok, Ok, the other ones are all made with chilled ingredients. I'll go back into my cave.
  • (1) Toast the pine nuts and cumin ahead of time. (2) Use a toaster oven. (3) It's only for ten minutes. Especially with roasted peppers. Nummy, nummy, nummy...
  • If you'd ever heard the scream of a freshly harvested soy bean, you'd never add tofu to hummus. Bet it'd make a nice steak garnish, though. Chommous?
  • Trader Joe's makes a lot of things to die for. Check out their tomato pesto. And their sausages, of course. Especially Gerhard's.
  • it should all be low-fat, too Not with all that tahini and oil, no. Mmmm... fatty-licious.
  • Chommous? I've seen chummus, so I suppose there could be a bunch of Chanukahesque alternate spellings. Reminds me of my chocummus experiment. Yes, I mixed in some cocoa with [insert preferred spelling here]. No, I don't recommend it.
  • PY, very inventive, but hummus is hummus, and halvah is something else again.
  • Chomemade chummus is a fine thing. Maybe if the ch [no velar (?) fricative here] ocolate 'ummus also had cinnamon and capiscum, it could go in a sort of mole direction.... Now I'm hungry again. Dammit.
  • ...it could go in a sort of mole direction... Hmmm. I just indulged in some Thai chili paste. If the Monkeys hear of any unexplained explosions on the central coast... (If it doesn't explode, and I don't explode, and it's edible, I'll post the recipe. Might be a good spread for turkey sandwiches.)
  • Mmmm... fatty-licious. Well, it's not exactly low-fat-fat, but it's low-bad-fat. If you follow what I mean.
  • "mole direction" - goetter, that may be brilliant. (Maybe no lemon, though.) Chickpeas instead of toasted bread, tahini for the sesame seeds, maybe even some peanut butter in place of the other ground, toasted nuts in the version my Mexican inlaws made, ground pasilla peppers unsweetened chocolate...hmmm. Your mission, if you chose to accept it, is to perfect this concept and report back.
  • Is sesame the good fat? Oh, man. It's all good. Avocados: Mesoamerica's gift to the galaxy. Or one of them, anyway. Mustn't post when hungry. Mustn't post while hungry. Mustn't post while hungry.
