Curious George: Papa needs a brand new bag Just picked up a new laptop, need a new carrying case to go with it.

Just picked up a new Dell laptop, which is superawesome. The case Dell sells it not so good, though. It's protective enough, but it's not superawesome like the laptop itself. The dimensions (no pun there, har, har) are 11 x 14 x 1.5 inches. I'd like to find a case that will be convenient for both school and work. One that would go from a backpack to a messenger or attache would be good. Protecting the laptop with foam or those straps that prevent the laptop from smacking the ground when the case is dropped are good too. Who has suggestions?

  • Brenthaven makes very expensive and very cool cases. I use a Timbuk2 case, however, and it serves me relatively well.
  • Accessorize your nerd lifestyle with a space bag! I know I want one.
  • spire usa has very nice bags that don't look like laptop bags. Which adds some security against muggers and thieves. I have a Volt myself, inbright yellow, and I'm very happy with it. 3 years already. Unfortuantely they don't use bright colors anymore. Must be because the American public doesn't want bright colors in times of war. Or something. Tom Binh is another manufacturer of good laptop bags.
  • I second Tom Binh. Their designs, aside from looking stylish, also seem very smartly thought out. Plus, at least in the past, the care tag said in English "Wipe with damp cloth" or something of the such with a proper translation in Spanish, then in French said "We're sorry about our leader, we didn't elect him." Good enough for me! That being said, I bought a really killer Targus backpack at Target that was just about everything I wanted...and at a crazy price. Plus it was filled with computer accessories so I now have a small USB mouse with a retractable cord. Had I not found this at a ridiculous price I would have bought Tom Binh's wares.
  • I heard somewhere the combination of a messenger bag and an iPod is very cool ...wait, how old are you?
  • backpack. shoulder-carry bags are for sucka MC's.
  • petebest should know. He is the king of rock. There is none higher. Sucka MC's frequently address him with a title of respect and authority.
  • Yet I rocked his kingdom; I used fire.
  • drjimmy11 Your comment did not get the immediate recognition that it deserved, but congrats nonetheless, on the funny. Though, perhaps you had to be there...
  • Petebest may be the king of rock but I'm the king of Boggle, there is none higher. I get 11 points off the word quagmire. Other than Target, is there a place to get a cool bag without spending a fortune? I got a laptop bag from Santa (actually it was from another Monkey - *waves at JC*) but want a bigger bag to put it and all my other crap in.
  • ebags.com has a good selection. I bought this messenger bag and a laptop sleeve similar to this one and am happy with them.
  • Have to put my undying support for Waterfield Bags into the mix. I have a sleevecase with flap, strap and piggyback pouch and have beat the crap out of it for 18 months- it still looks brand new. Friends I have sent their way have bought the Cargo and Racer-X bags and love them. Happy shopping!
  • How funny. My Tom Bihn just arrived yesterday. Their brain cell is frickin' awesome. Insanely light, with an inner frame for strength and a sling to hold the 'puter. It's not super stylish, but is designed to clip into their larger bags if you need more room. I'd been looking for a bag the same size as my 12" PowerBook, and they offer them in sizes that will fit all the way up to 17" lapzillas. Crumpler have some incredibly cool bags too, though the images do not do them justice. They look much, much cooler in person. The website is worth perusing for their sense of humor alone. Look through them until you find a bag they're temporarily out of. Very funny.
  • I honestly have no idea what a messenger bag is.
  • Nice out of stock logo. Those are some damn cool bags too, douggles.
  • Anyone want to add to these recommendations? 13.5 inch macbook, if that matters. Asthetically pleasing laptop sleeves with handles would be especially appreciated.
  • I hunted a wild 400lb boar with only my teeth and a spork. After killing the beast I skinned it and made a bag out of its stomach(pouch) and intestines(strap). Its ball sack is used for my cellphone.
  • And?
  • Yeah, does it get the chicks? I mean, in truckloads?
  • Remarkably women don't like the smell of boar bile. Apparently seagulls do though. *shoo shoo*
  • You have to leave it out in the rain for a while. That should mellow it out.
  • That didn't work on my ex-wife.
  • zing!
  • Give yourselves big old pats on the back for amusing yourselves as much as you do!
  • *grins big*
  • *pats back, pants, kicks leg*
  • Laters, yo. You can continue to crack yourselves up if you'd like, I'll ask somewhere else. There are how many threads in this place? And you have to do your little thing in this one as well? Thanks.
  • Maybe you should try here Mr. Poopy Pants. I am sorry today is Friday right?
  • Sorry mandyman, I was drunk on power. And gummy fish. Here's an high class one and This be waterproof. Get both, and you're set for rain or shine. Or this sleeve for any case
  • Hey glammajamma:
  • i'd check out crumpler. be warned that the front of the website is a bit annoying. their stuff is well-made and comfy to carry.
  • I mentioned this in another thread, but I'm quite fond of these. Butch, I'll grant you, and perhaps too mannish for Your Hawtness, but they appeal deeply to the riot nrrd in me. Get yourself a laptop sleeve and you're set to go. Sadly, black's on backorder until late next month, but once it's up, I'm ordering me one.
  • I ♥ mandyman.
  • As do I. I would add that if you were to comment here later that you bought and now use a bailout bag, and that you bought it in O.D. green and took it with you to get a tattoo and WORE BOOTS on your way over there, your Hotness Index would GO EVEN HIGHER with me, an event so unprecedented (and indeed inconceivable) that it would require physicists to rethink the implications of the double-slit experiment and put us well on our way to developing the Theory of Everything.
  • But for me to say that would be a derail, so I won't.
  • *piles on*
  • Monster Sleeve! Aaaaiiigh!
