Conservative Art and Zepplin. I recommend reading all the linked posts in the article, it's quite good. [via our very own apostropher].
  • This urge not to think spreads far and wide in our culture. It's the reason plasticine androids like Paris Hilton, who has done nothing on her own initiative except be born rich and famous, are more popular than subtle, intelligent, crisp Tina Fey. Puh-lease. if you think Tina Fey is "subtle, intelligent, and crisp" (because she wears glasses, basically)then you are engaged in highly cliched and supect thinking yourself. And the first sentence of the above quote is a raging generalization with no support whatsoever. (was this written by someone here? sorry, but that's how I feel) ps Zeppelin rules and they are not personally responsible for stupid emails allegedly sent by their fans.
  • Hmmmmm, I agree with the basic thrust, though I dislike Tina Fey.
  • Also, the author likes zepplin, his point was that they shouldn't be diefied, and that doing so produces the raging sycophants who encourage bad art.
  • I'd thankfully never heard of this Kinkade fellow before this, but after I've read the few connected blog posts I now believe that if Kinkade didn't exist, it would be necessary for republican america to create him.
  • I like Tina Fey, and the basic thrust. Simulacrum of exchange sounds kinda hot too...
  • Led Zeppelin only produced on very good record, their debut. It was (and is) an excellent reformation of blues composition and is still the standard benchmark used when blues aficionados describe the way in which rock music owes a huge debt to the blues (and therefore to a lot of African music, as well). That said, Led Zeppelin still stole/appropriated nearly every hook and absolutely every second of the work of the rhythm section from the blues. That's not a malignant criticism: most musicians stand on the shoulders of their predecessors (and some contemporaries) and music, like visual art, science and literature, naturally evolves in this way. Still, this escapes many of the 'Zeppelin Rules!' fanatics, who really ought to know better. Subsequent albums from the band revealed more flaws than successes, until they collapsed in utter defeat with In Through The Out Door. Some critic always tries to hail Physical Graffiti as a misunderstood masterpiece every few years, but, while it has its moments, in the end it is a muddled, uneven effort. As for Paris Hilton, the only cure for such creatures and phenomena is for the public to ignore them and, simultaneously, the mainstream media to stop fawning over them. Best of luck engineering that social coup. Tina Fey is what people who watch too much television think is an intellectual. Many of those same people think potatoes can only be made into french fries or potato chips, so adjust your appreciation of their viewpoints accordingly.
  • Dude, Led Zep II still rocks! Good post. Tina Fey is lame, but self-aware. She should be the bottom, or the middle, of SNL but instead she's about the best thing going for it. Read NYtimes article about waning SNL from Sunday. My family and I were having a similar discussion about Bob Ross, but noted that he's kinda bound by his fomr- instructional painting- and that's why he cannot help but champion technique over composition...
