The map of all Julia sets... The optical illusions page a couple posts back reminded me of this really nice and colorfull mandelbrot set program you can download for free. So much information in such a compact equation...
  • For Unix people there is xaos (a fractal zoomer). In the past I used to use use Chris Rowley's deep-zoom program to make trippy desktop backgrounds. The most versatile program of them all is fractint, but it is really annoying to use because of its DOS heritage. Fract-o-rama is also very versatile and much friendlier than fractint, but can be slow. My favourite fractal program is Quat .
  • Of course, _the_ fractal program to use, nowadays, is Ultrafractal. Check out my past FPPs here and at Mefi.
  • Note: Ultrafractal is not free software. Nor does it appear to support 3d (or higher dimensional) fractals like Quat. (Does it?)
  • Can this animate, even if to cycle the palette? I've been on the lookout for a fractal program that can entertain our 9-month old son. (Now remembering ye olde days back in 1990 playing with FractInt on a 286 at work... those were the days)
  • Or you could get serious and get this program: http://www.eclectasy.com/Fractal-Explorer/index.html
  • Awesome links, all! Thanks!
  • Yeah, those are great links! I've got a couple more planned for the next few days...
