So this is freedom?

Take some time to consider the civilian lives lost on both sides of this conflict.

  • also consider, in world war II, 7 million dead in Ukraine; 6.5 million lost in Germany. Poland, 5 (or 6) million, Japan 2.36 million, Yugoslavia 1.7 million, France 600,000, Italy 500,000, Romania 500,000, Greece 450,000, Hungary 430,000, Great Britain 350,000, Czechoslovakia 340,000, Austria 374,000, USA 300,000, Holland 210,000, Finland 100,000, Belgium 88,000 and Canada 42,000. Byelorussia lost 2,198,000 civilians. The Russian SFSR, or Russia, lost 1,781,000 civilians and about 3 to 4 million military or about 5 to 6 million. (that's from a ukrainian history site) bottom line, war sucks. but then again, in the case of world war II, what was the alternative? in the case of iraq, LOTS of alternatives. and, actually, i believe both the loss of civilians and military has drastically declined with each war. where's our war historian?? we have one, i forget his name...
  • Three thousand names in New York, three thousand names in Iraq (with plenty more to come). Tit for tat, game over, right? But Iraq *still* didn't have fuck-all to do with 9/11.
  • A people should know when they're conqueredliberated.
  • Meanwhile... Old news? Perhaps. But Iraq is not alone, nor is it the worst hit by violence in recent memory.
  • So this is Freedom And what have we done? Another war waging And a new one being spun And so this is Freedom I hope you have fun The maimed and the dead ones, The old and the young... Sprung into my mind. Good post, carfilhiot. We should all do well to keep this data in mind. "But Iraq is not alone, nor is it the worst hit by violence in recent memory." I don't believe recent memory is happening now. I think the point carfilhiot may be trying to make is that this is going on now, therefore we have the ability to do something about it. Even a small thing. Recent memory cannot be changed by action. I understand the need to cushion oneself from the reality of it, though. Sorry if I seem harsh. I've had a guts full of all this nonsense.
  • A spokesman for the Pentagon said it did not keep track of civilian casualties because it was not fighting civilians. Right. Carry on, then.
  • I don't believe recent memory is happening now. Oh yes it is.
  • PARSE ERROR, shawnj. Probly my fault, but nevertheless.. that wasn't really what I meant.
