Curious George: Why the light pink background? As I was reading the FAQ, I came to this part of it, discussing monkeyfilter's color scheme. I've been curious why light pink was chosen for the background, and I was really suprised to read that a majority of monkeys prefer that color. But now I suspect that it's supposed to be a different color, like maybe it's supposed to be the same purple Tracy's weblog uses. Is this right?
  • It doesn't show up as lavender or pink for me, it's just white. Huh.
  • Light grey or white with maroon links is what I see. A shame I can't customize it on my own unit. Not that I particularly dislike it. It just reminds me of hospital corridors at night -- soft but institutional lighting on white walls. (I'm all about green)
  • It's a pale grayish lavender for me, and since people refer to it as "the lavender" I assume I'm seeing it as it was intended to be seen. I wonder why it's different for you?
  • Ok, having checked a handy online color chart, I agree with you, Cali. Lavender it is.
  • I get a light pink with dark red text. I would've expected a brown, to go with the monkey theme. The FAQ does say we'll be able to customize it eventually.
  • Coincidentally, we (#2 and I) have been trying out style selection on the profile page. It seems to be working well on the test site so should be up on MoFi soon, I guess. Then anyone who feels the urge to create their own MoFi style and share it with others can do so. (Yes, it's less important than the other million things I should be doing, but is sort of cool.) And to me it's always looked like a very pale blue-grey, but I defer to the majority who call it lavender.
  • The real question here is: What is that monkey on the logo trying to grab? A flower, a fruit, the just-cut tree branch s/he' s dangling from? (I love the graphic's old-tyme :) style, btw)
  • I think the monkey is dropping ass-berries at the base of the tree. That's where I'd drop 'em.
  • Yeah I'd have to agree with Cali, it looks like lavender to me.
  • Update: check your profile, play with the stylesheet selector. I reckon the yellow stylesheet has a pretty darn pink background.
  • Erm... off topic, I appriciate, but which muppet decided that this was the colour of lavender? Had they ever seen the plant? Anyway, I like the colour scheme.
  • whooo! thanks for the pretty pony tracicle.
  • I don't mind the lavender so much. I don't really like the grey text though.
  • for someone with my vision problems, i find this colour set-up wonderfully easy to read. it looks blue-grey to me. i never understood the 'lavendar' reference. /leaves, mumbling about the status quo.
  • salmacis, try the so-blue style in your profile. The text becomes black.
  • salmacis, I have some vision difficulty too, here. The grey text is difficult to read, with light grey on lavender-grey -- the text could be darker for visual ease. But the oxblood/maroon/port wine colour and the yellow both show up nicely enough.
  • Ooh, the so-blue style's quite nice. Not sure about the bright orange links, but other than that it's really good looking. But I am a traditionalist. I shall stick to the good ol' lavender, I think.
  • I usually read MoFi using IE, but I'm currently using the PowerBook and Safari... and the page looks so much better! I could care less for the lavender (it's fine, don't get me wrong, but doesn't really do anything for me either), but don't want to go to the trouble of downloading mozilla with my crappy dial-up connection. Sigh.
  • I think the monkey's reaching for poop to fling. But then, I could be projecting...
  • Yes, it's less important than the other million things I should be doing, but is sort of cool. Oh, please. We all know that the least important projects are the ones we're inevitably drawn toward most inexorably. (Witness my massive and pointless website redesign projects.)
  • Oooh. Nice brain.
  • I feel treasonous but... I'm liking the blue. Green rocks but I wasn't keen on the accompanying layout, and the yellow/brown put me on banana overload.
  • Not digging either the blue or the green. High-intensity saturated colors are bad enough for text, but on a light background they're terrible on the eyes. The blue would be great if we could just turn down the sizzle on the orange a tad. The banana yellow/brown, however, works for me. And if Raw-shock can read the blue without headaches... to each his own.
  • ack. ok, agree with goetter on that. the blue was a tad intense for my sleep deprived eyes, but I've settled into the green and cream quite nicely.
  • I'm a fan of the yellow, myself. Out of all those, I think three were written by monkeys. Anyone who wants to claim ownership/credit is welcome to step forward, because it's been so long that I've forgotten who wrote them. And again, I'd be happy to take new stylesheets for people that want something more to their liking. Then no one can complain. :)
  • I'm already settled into the mellow yellow. when I lose my cookie and have to go through the default lavender, I have a momentary shock, like I haven't seen it that way for years rather than...45 minutes or so.
  • I likee yellow. Blue is lovely, except for the brilliant orange links which give me afterimages when I look away from the screen (I kid you not). The Monkeypedia freaked me out. I was frantically looking for where everything was, clicking repeatedly on the links at the top before realising that everything was down below. Clicked back to yellow with alacrity.
  • I like it how it is.
  • I'm still trying to figure out how to keep it Yellow. Firefox keeps switching back to the default when I change pages. Not that I terribly mind the lavendar, but the text is a shade too light to read comfortably.
  • LarimdaME: are you using the Firefox built-in stylesheet selector or the selector on the profile page, just above the "Change password" boxes.
  • Another vote for the default style, although the green wasn't too bad either. If all the colors were toned down, they might be more endurable. The blue/orange thing really messed with my eyes.
  • The yellow looks great in IE, and kudos to Tracicle for fixing that logo problem, too.
  • guess i'm a traditionalist, i still like the lavendar the best. is there a reason links do not change colors to denote that they had been viewed before?
  • Viva Lavender!
  • Lavender: A fragrant case of the blues *wafts #3925 into #3925*
  • That is the strangest photo! I lubs me some lavender. *GramMa's household tip #89: Put a few drops of lavender essential oil on your vacuum cleaner bag, and vacuuming won't be such a chore*
  • *GramMa's household tip #89: Put a few drops of lavender essential oil on your vacuum cleaner bag gin glass, rinse with tonic water, drain, and fill with gin, and vacuuming won't be such a chore*
  • hah! ) to ThinksTwice. GramMa, I thought the picture looked like giant purple caterpillars invading the countryside...
  • I never knew that we could change the colours and viewing format. They all look odd though, just like the new Facebook.
  • None of my lavender made it through the winter. I was terribly disappointed. :(
  • You got had some wimpy lavender there Captain.
  • For GramMa Lavender Gin and Tonic On a sad note, I is allergic to lavender. My mother loves to wear it and I sneeze and sneeze.
  • ThinksTwice, after that crack, if you think you're getting some of GramMa's special cookies made with gin ginger, you can just think twice! MonkeyFilter: I sneeze and sneeze.
