plegmund, this is a fantastic post! Among the illustrations of what-is-not-yet ours, the transplanetary subway (propelled by maglev=magnetic levitation) running between Los Angeles and New York fills me with anti-nostalgie for the depicted future.

oh lordy that is a great post. of course i went right for "oddities," where i learned about that plan that eliminated all cars from downtown sanfran by 1980, and where i saw "Hover Girl" Miss Vicky Veack. hey how come in drawings of the future so many of the background are nighttime? it's as if space settles down upon earth or something.
