There's still no flying cars, but here's ten futuristic materials to start building one.
  • Whoa! I want a shirt like that.
  • That's one odd site.
  • Transparent alumina?!? Now we can get those whales home!
  • ok so william gibson & neal stephenson really are prophetic gurus. that stuff is cool.
  • I've bookmarked this puppy. Transparent is the new modesty shield.
  • Well, RTD, it's best to be prepared. Although why they seem to think aliens speak Tetris is beyond me.
  • Thanks for inducing a geek-out! I was led to this in my quest for more info on so-called transparent alumina. Faskinatin' stuff!
  • Gramma: I'm familiar with that tetris graphic. I never understood why they thought aliens would recognize a picture of a man, or DNA, a satellite. If the image consist solely of pictures, it might makes sense, but half of it is supposed to be math, not images. I think aliens would expect the whole thing to written the same way, that they wouldn't see a picture of a man, just another number that seems out of place. smt: That's cool. I love ceramics. I sooooo want to sculpt something transparent.
  • Previously I had looked into the subject of transparent cement which was more low tech, being no more than the casting of fiber optic strands into ordinary cement or concrete. These newer materials are far more revolutionary and interesting. Now again I find out how much more I need to learn...
