  • We could discuss why the UK prison service is employing big jessies if you'd prefer though.
  • When I was doing research on the Declaration of Indepencce, I read an article about how many eighteenth-century Westerners thought that it was your own fault if you were enslaved and didn't manage to secure your own liberty by yourself. Sort of "if you can't get yourself free, you don't deserve your freedom." I guess it's taking "God helps those who help themselves" to a ridiculous extreme.

  • Wow, and ouch. This is a pretty amazing collection (from a county record office no less! Historians should dig around in them more), but I can't say I'm much inspired by the man in question.
