Kurious English George Coming To America 27/Mar-3/Apr I'm going to be in Los Angeles 27 March - 3 April 2007, and I'd love to meet the LA Monkeys. Never been before, so when, where, how? I'm visiting a friend who lives near the Dodgers Stadium.
  • Have you checked your passport?
  • You bastard.
  • What a MeetUp whore that muteboy is....
  • Passport complies with Visa Waiver! Machine readable strip/RFID chip for flavour and excitement! Also, Tokyo is next!
  • Wheeeeeeeeeee!
  • Way to cross the streams of Anglo and MoFiLA meetups, muteboy. Bastard.
  • I expect this trip to be copiously blogged and pictured, OK?
  • Dumbass, you booked a flight to LA, when you were supposed to go to Sydney. Did you not get the flyer?
  • Another LA meetup! Another soon-to-be Tokyo! Please, please, will someone visit that small place in the nether regions of the globe - NYC! *sighs*
  • I'll be down your way in the fall, smt. It's an errand trip -- pick up a new suit at Century 21, load up on reading material at Labyrinth and the Strand, get a much-needed platza and a schvitz, quaff a few early-afternoon pints at McSorley's, drunkenly pick up a few misguided reading choices at St. Mark's. I'd love to do a meetup, if you still haven't bolted the country by the fall...
  • if you still haven't bolted the country by the fall... Sadly, I did laugh out loud at that - because there is some probability in it! Goodness, haven't been to McSorley's in some time... Keep us updated, Capt! Will do... will do... Perhaps we could persuade TUM to drive downstate?
  • "whore", "bastard", "dumbass", these are not the words I was expecting to hear... I did get the memo/flyer, Koko, but you don't want to know what I did with it. Plegmund, flickr won't know what hit it. Gomi, I was lying, I'm sorry.
  • schvitz Word not found in the Dictionary and Encyclopedia. Did you mean: Schmitz Schlitz
  • Vhat? You don't know from schvitz? Oy gevalt!
  • *schvmacks pete* I'm reminded of a visit to a Sauna in Kusatsu springs, Japan. I must have been the only foreigner in the place, and at the time had very limited Japanese reading skills. There were three saunas to pick from in this particular getaway. The first two were crowded. I peeked in at the third, it was completely empty - so in I went. After 10 minutes, I was sweating from from places I didn't know could sweat (e.g., finger tips). No one entered during that initial 10 minutes. Finally, another person came in. He looked at me with great surprise. And he spoke in fairly decent English, "you like HOT!! It's good!" He then proceeded to sit next to me and converse for a bit. He got up and left after a few minutes. I had to bail moments later, as I felt that I was about to pass out. On my way out, I noticed a large sign in bold red letters that I couldn't read, except for the exclamation mark and the number 100. Aha! I had been sitting in the 100 degree C sauna! My sweat was nearly boiling...
  • I had a schvitz this morning, as my new gym has a steam room (my old gym just had a dry sauna, which is woefully inferior). The secret to handling the heat is to not move a muscle, thus keeping airflow to a minimum. As soon as you start moving around, you can feel the heat growing stronger. Of course, this makes the walk to the exit door the hottest part of the experience.
  • I'm surprised, smt -- empty hot tubs surrounded by full ones is exactly the same phenomenon as an empty subway car during rush hour. There's a reason it's empty. You do not want to know that reason.
  • Ohhhhh a schvitz! Of course! I - heh - I thought you, I mean, what could it be? But of course a schvitz! And who doesn't love one?! I like one followed by a brief shower and then do you know what? I like a nice sandwich! With lettuce and tomato - nice cool vegetables, I like it!
  • "whore", "bastard", "dumbass", and LIAR! Isn't it fun to be popular? (~_^)
  • Focus, people, focus! We need details! Where/when do you wanna meet?!
  • if ever there were a time I should hop in the car and drive down for an LA meetup....I wonder if I can convince Mr. Medusa???
  • I really don't know where to go, so can I trust you guys to come up with somewhere supercool? Also, what else should I be doing? My lovely host will be showing me the sights/sites, but if you have any recommendations, they'd be most welcome.
  • Be sure to check out the world famous freeways- awesome!
  • I liked the Atlas Supper Club on Wilshire Blvd when I last visited LA (1999). Decent food and music.
  • There's a reason it's empty. You do not want to know that reason. ha! had a similar experience in kyoto at the baths with the centuries-old carvings of japanese soldiers killing chinese peasants..."hmm, nobodys in this bath, why not give it a try...oh, electricity! and lots of it! how delightful! and ice cold, too! now to step out as soon i stop twitching..." *shudder* well anyway, it's been a while since we've been to the flea market (remember when chris turned bright red in the sunlight and complained all day?! whee!) ...thought it might be a nice opportunity for a foreign invader to secure some of our priceless national treasures at a fraction of their actual value. plus, they have sno-cones!
  • Hmm, I don't remember it happening exactly that way. At any rate: classy comment, and totally called-for! Cheers!
  • Hokay, got a few super peeps meeting up, but if there's anyone else, step up now. Looking forward to this trip no end!
  • LA trip photos here Meetup photos here mandyman, thanks for hosting, Space Kitty and everyone, great to see you! Much hilarity, wine and culture!
  • Holee shit! Sun! Greenery! I remember those! Thanks for the shoutout, you beautiful people!
  • Heehee, "Can Has Shoutout"
  • Yay! A fine meetup/LA jaunt it looks to be! I knew it would be wine, monkeys & song all the way with muteboy once he got the taste for it . .
  • Fine pictures, and gratifying (albeit non-pictorial) shouts-out.
  • I think we've got spoilt with the drawn shoutouts recently, Plegmund. Back to the old school! Also, I can't draw, unlike you, as the recent shoutouts showed. Now, where next, seeing as I have unlimited money and leisure (pron. LEE-zhure) time?
  • I'm coming back on 25th May!
  • And I'm spending the whole of October in LA! This is getting silly. Anyone around? LA Meetup 2007 #3?
