The Thief and The Cobbler: Recobbled Filmmaker Garrett Gilchrist attempts to contruct of a final cut of Richard Williams epic, unfinished, animation project from a variety of sources that look like film, animatic, pencil tests, and video.

Richard Williams was the animation director for Who Framed Rodger Rabbit? which wasn't one my favorite films, but I'm really digging cobbler. It's a pretty ambitious film and Williams seems to have a lot of passion for his subject (he spent over 30 years trying finish this thing). Really beautifully designed, great characters, funny, and just generally kind of amazing for a western animated feature. The film's in 17 parts, but apparently a hi-res, whole movie file is floating around on file sharing networks. More information on Cartoon Brew

  • That Cartoon Brew link is supposed to go here
  • I just watched a couple of parts on youtube. It's very interesting and clearly very ambitious, and I'll have to watch it through sometime. Thanks for the link.
  • More info and a possible (I haven't tried it) BT link to a hi-res version at bb.
  • Torrent also available here (NSFW ads), and through ISOHUNT.
  • What is the difference between film and video?
