Curious George: Do any other daily comics do this?...Watch their faces.

I was so creeped out by this I needed to share. So I have a secret addiction to For Better or for Worse, a Canadian daily comic strip. I take comfort in its wholesomeness and general non-weirdity (stop laughing!), so I have to say I was pretty creeped out by this.

  • So you're saying you were creeped out by this?
  • blink
  • I am creeped out by this, yes. I have also had a bit of wine, Chyren :)
  • *hides* Ew!
  • Diesel sweeties has done something like it at least once.
  • That is pretty weird. I started reading FBOFW after I got into the Comics Curmudgeon blog (Josh is a MoFi member, and I know I should remember which one but I can't recall his username -- how embarrassing). I've never seen that before, and it creeps me out like those dumb SWF things where zombies jump out of photos.
  • It doesn't really make sense - it actually makes it seem as if the characters are frozen in one position apart from their eyes. It would make more sense if you had a tiny bit of animation in the first frame - speech bubble appears, character raises eyebrow, say - just once, and then a tiny bit in the next frame, and so on. But I suppose if you're going that far you might as well animate the whole thing.
  • The cat is playing in the first frame. I'd love to see Get Fuzzy do this.
  • The only comic I've seen do something like this usefully (in fact, it's a delight) is When I Am King. It's one of my favorite things ever.
  • (uh, I should mention, on re-reading, that a good bunch of it is NSFW)
  • The kitty is cute, though it took me forever to notice any movement.
  • Wunnerful gif, Chy!
  • Holy crud. It's like those paintings where the eyes follow you around.
  • Hehe. Robot willy NSFW (!). Hahahahaha.
  • OK, it should be noted, that because the story is linked to the current day's strip rather than a particular one, the original post wasn't one with a cat in it. However, this means that they do this on a regualr basis, which is just plain weird. It only seems to be the strips on the official For Better or For Worse site as this strip doesn't have the movement. Has this been going on long? It seems as if the comics before monday don't have the motion. So did it just start or do they get rid of it after a certain ammount of time? So many questions! FBORF is one of those strips that I'm glad exists even if I don't necessarilly read it. It is one of the few strips with ongoing storylines that aren't as boring or ancient as Mary Worth (of course the comics curmudgeon might disagree. I love his site!).
  • It's a Mid-Summer miracle!
  • I appreciate that the author is a devotee of Sparky Schulz, but I hate, hate, hate FBOFW. Everytime and I mean everytime I read an actual comics page, I'll skip over it, then I convince myself to give it one more try and I end up finding it dumb, meandering, stupid and I hate it!! AAAAAAUUUUUUUGGHH! /rats
  • You forgot "WHUMP!"
  • Bleah
  • From the orginal link: "Animated Strips: You're not seeing things! We began animating the strips on the 19th of June, 2006, and will continue to animate selected strips when the artwork accommodates it. We're pleased this feature has added some extra interest to the strip - thanks for all your feedback! " Was that there yesterday, or did they just put that there because so many people though they were having some sort of migraine flashes?
  • Also, why do only certain characters blink?
  • yyyyesh . . migraine flashes. That's what it were. Was.
  • Good grief.
  • Oh, Pete, you're talking about auras? I hate it when I get those while I'm driving. *picks up more trash from the side of the road*
  • I think they may have just added that, Lara. Yesterday I looked and looked for something to tell me I was not hallucinating.
  • yyyyesh . . migraine flashes. *tries not to vomit from the memory*
  • Here you go, Kit
  • *applause*
  • I've been looking for hours: I can't see any feces in that comicstrip.
  • Wow, it doesn't animate on my browser, or something, 'cos that would have freaked my shit out this morning (yes, I read FBOFW first thing every day, d'you wanna make something out of it? I do, actually, since it's gotten so crappy. Liz moving back to The South is making me puke). Trac, I'm so giddy to hear Josh is a member here. Hi, Josh! Comics Curmudgeon is my favourite blog ever; I laugh my ass of at it all the time, and am always dragging my husband in to read it. More zippers, mule!
  • I read FBOFW every day, too. *sigh* And... what livii said. It looks like she's setting up a big boring love triangle between Liz, the nice policeman, and her old highschool flame who looks forty for some reason. Meh. Meanwhile, the parents prepare for death. No, really. I like comics curmudgeon, too! Howdy, Josh! Also, sometimes Gael at Pop Culture Junk Mail reveals her FBOFW obsession in fun ways.
  • For better or for worse was funnier when she has little kids and was making diaper jokes. You wanna know what's creepy? Her kids are EXACTLY the age of my brother and me. And you wanna know what's sad? They have like, careers and kids and things.
  • oflinkey, I don't see any... no... I don't understand what you're... AAAAA IT BLUNK!!! *jumps* This breaks the fourth wall for me. Or the Uncanny Valley of Comics. Or something.
  • Eee, the blinking! The blinking!
  • *migraine sets in* The mention of the auras did it... oohhhwwww my....
  • I can read your aura. You seem...backed up.
  • Be good to us. Aura else.
  • Okay, it blinked this morning. That is fucked up. ::shivers::
  • *Yesterday...* I don't see anything. *Today* Augh! The apocalypse is nigh!
