LA Meetup? Cabingirl and perhaps other monkeys will be in town next week for the nerd convention, er, I mean E3. Let's give her (and any assorted others) a proper MoFiLA welcome!

Anyone, anyone? PS, I have a midterm on Tuesday, but after that should be cool yo.

  • You know what the Captain wants. Besides more comments on his Ask A Ninja thread, of course.
  • Good luck on the midterm, mandyman! Next week looks good for me.
  • The Captain wants kitfisto. Doesn't he? Doesn't he...? *sob*
  • oooh...i know...we should try to hold some kind of flashmob for our visitors *hastily prepares molotov cocktails*
  • Man, I would give my left one for a chance to go to E3 and get drunk with you people. Enjoy it, and think of the little people.
  • Well, I'll be in San Francisco next week for the World Horror Convention. Any monkeys nearby?
  • The Captain wants kitfisto. Doesn't he? Of course I do, of course. But I can't really take time off work right now. Seeing as how you're a painter and all, your schedule is entirely illusory more accommodating -- and there's Chocomel here waiting for you! And Zoom Airlines is soon back to their $99.- each way between Toronto and the Land of Eng, a price which should be in the reach of even the most starving of artists. (I don't think $99.- even covers gas money over the Atlantic...)
  • Ah. Feel better now.
  • IWANNASHOUTOUT1111IWANNASHOUTOUT1111 (just an itty-bitty one on some underwear or body part or something -- you know, nasty, yet cute. Please.)
  • TP the World Horror Convention and you didn't tell me about it???????????????? I live in the Bay Area, in fact, RIGHT NEXT TO San Francisco (just over a little bit of water...) I've got lots of ins here, I belong to all the right cults....do I have to know a secret handshake to go to the Convention??
  • Oh, dude, you should totally have her at the booth. She'll molest half the passersby. That'll get you subscriptions.
  • Medusa--you have to pay to get in, the info's on the website listed above. Unfortunately, it's not too cheap. It's mostly a horror lit thing, though there will be some movie types there as well. Lotsa books. Anyway, if you make it in, I'll be the rakishly handsome bearded fellow at the City Slab Magazine booth on Friday and Saturday. *wiggles eyebrows*
  • Bugger! I won't be in LA until the first week of June. That being said, any non-museum suggestions for people in the area from Sunday through Tuesday morning? (Sat/Wed being travel days, and Not-Legally-Mr Cobalt not thrilled about my 'museum...museum...gallery' lineup.)
  • Er.. about the meetup? Any ideas about when/where would be good?
  • burger king!!!!!!
  • It's not a nerd convention, dammit! I'll have you know that my boyfriend is the envy of all his friends. "Your girlfriend games? Wow, you're a lucky guy!" Anyhow...I'm busy Thursday night for sure, but I could probably do something Wednesday or Friday night.
  • By the way, if anyone is interested, a friend sent this along to me: At the wake of the world's largest trade show on electronic entertainment - where are the women and what do they want? On May 9, UCLA will host a conference focusing on girls' and women's participation in game design and play. Associate professor Yasmin Kafai from UCLA's Graduate School of Education & Information Studies along with MIT professor Henry Jenkins; Brenda Laurel, chair of the Graduate Media Design Program at the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, Calif.; Nichol Bradford, global director of strategic growth at Vivendi Universal Games; and a variety of gaming experts from Europe, Asia and North America will participate. "Girls 'n' Games" Tuesday, May 9, 2:30-6 p.m. at the Expermental Digital Arts (EDA) space in the North Kinross Building, Suite 104, 1100 Kinross Blvd in Westwood Reception to follow
  • interesting...i thought girls/women (as of recently) now make up the majority of game players (like 51/49, but whatever)...but hell, if i were straight geek trying to 'get lucky', then that would seem to be the place, right?... *spills gasoline on whopper* damn!
  • regrettably, i won't be able to make it. please drink/smoke one for me. and have fun!
  • "Girls 'n' Games"? Didn't they close donwn that joint?
  • I'm up for something on Wednesday.
  • Damn you L.A. Monkeys and your cool, cosmipolitan, hipster lifestyle! *wanders off grumbling*
  • Damn you L.A. Monkeys and your cool, cosmipolitan, hipster lifestyle! *wanders off grumbling*
  • Yeah, that's how jealous I am. I posted it twice! And I'd do it again!
  • Wednesday is cool with me. Cabingirl, do you have a car/know where you're staying?
  • I'm staying at a Day's Inn in Mid-Wilshire (I think it is - 457 S Mariposa). I won't have a car...we're cabbing it to the LACC (and everywhere else).
  • OMG, you are so perfectly located for a trip to the Brass Monkey!
  • Here!
  • ...try a more provocative-sounding drink like the Razzy Monkey, the Ex-Wife or the sweet Funky Monkey made with Watermelon Pucker, vodka and orange juice. Don't people just have sex ask for simple drinks anymore? *seethes, goes to mix vodka and cranberry juice, calls it a 'Soviet Monkey', gulps it down*
  • You mean a Former Soviet Monkey, right?
  • Oh, lord - karaoke. I'll be there!
  • Pictures of karaoke reqested - nay, demanded.
  • Wednesday 5/10, 8pm, Brass Monkey? Does that sound like a plan?
  • I'll be there!
  • mmmm...brass monkey japanese dumplings... *gobble, snorf* *swills molotov cocktail* *gags*
  • OMG, this is today!!!
  • Yes it is...my feet are killing me but I will perservere for cocktails and karaoke.
  • Have fun. *seeths*
  • *tapping fingers, waiting for pics*
  • No shoutouts, kids. We were too busy rocking the mic to take pics this time.
  • NO SHOUTOUTS?????????????? I was really hoping for some shoutout underoos or something...sheesh!
  • Did you at least sing MoFi-themed songs?
  • I can't imagine that a rousing rendition of "Shock The Monkey" wasn't featured prominently.
  • I demand that you build a time machine, get in it, go back and do some shoutouts and pics, dammit!
  • *still tapping fingers, but now in disappointment*
  • Why I aughta...!
  • I'm back home now...yea, no shoutouts or anything, I know. It was My First Meetup(TM), I didn't know what I was doing... There was some lovely Monkey singing. Only a smidge, though.
  • Monkeyfilter: It was my first... I didn't know what I was doing he he... the power of out-of-context editing!
