The 50 Best Restaurants In The World.
  • Let me tell you, I got food poisoning from The Fat Duck, and the crapper in Michael Bras is disgusting.
  • My two-way pork at Chez Panisse was outstanding--just as Zanshin about it.
  • *ask* god damn typo!
  • Five in New York. Three in the USA.
  • /blushes as mandymans comment Seriously, Chex Panisse is always a wonder to eat at. Mrs. Zanshin and I try to eat there at least once every year.
  • french laundry, eh? that sounds appetizing
  • Nothing in Mexico? Or Thailand? Absurd.
  • Interesting that there were so many in Spain, though they were all to the north of the part I've visited. On the other hand, the little places on the beach near Malaga were wonderful, if not gourmet. Pepe's Beach Bar near Marbella in southern Spain always called me back. As did the Delphi in Athens, and the Drawbridge Inn in Mystic, Connecticut. Oh, and La Fontana in New Brunswick, New Jersey is wonderful - and, if they like you, they'll give you a glass of the fruit marinated grappa that is addictive. So, most of us will never get to the 50 best, but what are your little-known favorites?
  • the little sushi place down the street from me (next door to the laundromat and the 7-11) which has 2 things on the menu: dinner special ($40) and chef's dinner special ($60) (or you can order al a carte-no prices given) has The Best Sushi i've ever had. even in japan. why it's in MY neighborhood i'll never know...
  • Well, sexy - if you'd give the name of the restaurant, and even more of a location,, other LA monkeys might go there, and drive up the prices.... Ok, I see why you're so secretive.
  • Where's In N Out?
  • Oooooo I've eaten at the Rockpool. Odd how so many of the restaurants are Japanese or Japanese/Fusion yet none in Japan. Probably because the best restaurants here are in tiny little backwaters where the same owner has been running it for 40 years.... not the ones with the big names.
  • my place is like that...very traditional, flaps over the door, tanooki in the window... i'm surprised brennan's in new orleans isn't on the list...if it's still there...bananas foster. yum! (it's like bananas, brown sugar, rum, cinnamon, and fire served over ice cream) heres a recipe
  • At last, a list over the most pretentious places in the universe. I wouldn't be seen dead at any of them.
  • Well! They'll be getting a sharply-worded letter from the folks at Li'l Klaus's Granny-style Flapjack, Hardtack, Fatback, Rib-rack, & Pie Shack. The sommelier there is a real snob.
  • I've eaten out all these places.
  • *at* AT all these places. Damn you sexyrobot.
  • This is one of the many reasons I love Chez Panisse. Yes, you can call me pretentious.
  • Chyren has amazing eating capabilities.
  • the Mogul Arch restaurant at Batu Ferrenghi, Penang, Malaysia, is the best Indian Food I have ever eaten, hands down. It's Tops in San Fran (diner) makes the best blueberry pancakes E.V.A.R. The Burger Joint has some damn fine french fries. oh, and Zanshin is pretentious ;)
  • Yay! At least Chicago got some love (Charlie Trotter's). I still prefer Hema's Kitchen up on Devon. Indian is the bestest cuisine in the world...because I said so.
  • um...why am I being damned? I haven't done anything to you. yet. cello in new york is damn good...the fanciest place i've been to out here is spago...that was pretty fantastic...rebecca's in venice (ca, not italy) had the most amazing octopus chandelier, but i just learned they've been closed...for years.
  • thats not what I was imagining an octopus chandelier to look like....
  • ...me either...
  • I wanted to try and get to El Bulli in spain but you pretty much have to make reservations over a year in advance. There is a good one in Sant Pau called Carmen Ruscalleda. In Madrid I went to Teatriz, which was a great experience. I also loved the cochinilla at Mesón de José María in Segovia. It was a meal to die for, especially if you were a piglet.
  • I don't see Dorsia on that list.
  • yeah...not like that at all...it was a huge chicken wire construction about 10-12 ft across completely covered in glass chandelier drops in clear and lt. brown with red eyes, lit from within...
  • The Peninsula Creamery and Grill in Palo Alto. Yeah, baby.
  • I'm not seeing Superdog. How can I take this list seriously?
  • Dorsia serves a great godiva chocolate dessert. Bit minty tho.
  • A little on the watery side, I thought.
  • Chez Henri, in Joliette, Quebec (Canada). Reason: best poutine! 1000 miles from where I now live. Whenever we vist Joliette, my kids insist that we go there. I gladly agree. (Montreal Smoked Meat Poutine - Yum!!)
  • Restaurants with 3 Michelin stars. Compare and contrast.
