One of our own has put an end to a really useful site. Say goodbye (and if you're new to it, hello) to the LazyWeb, created by Ben Hammersley -- aka DangerIsMyMiddleName -- in 2002, a source of obscure answers for geeks all over. Now its time has come.

#2 introduced me to the Lazyweb some time ago, and it was only on skimming DIMMN's blog today that I discovered he built it. And is shutting it down. Sniff.

  • It doesn't look so hard to create your own LazyWeb you know, people. Someone try it!
  • Too lazy. Must sit on couch now.
  • I'll do it tomorry.
  • eeek well, if you'd said... Actually, it might be coming back. I've had rafts of volunteers wanting to put loads of filtering into my dodgy four-year-old code base. Meanwhile, I'm taking a rest from the dog porn.
  • Yeah, I googled up a cached version just to see how spammy it was. Not pretty. I don't blame you for shutting it down; I almost did the same with the MoFi wiki, and it's a lot easier to block spam on MediaWiki than having to write something into your own code. #2 will be pleased if it returns, though. The other night he was all, Hey, I'll just use the Lazyweb to do my dirty work and I was all no way yo! Use MoFi! Never again.
  • Any husband of Moth is a lucky lucky man. With added lucky.
  • *nods once again in agreement at the wisdom of Wolof*
  • See also, the rather marvellous BBC Programme Catalogue, launched today, which he had a hand in. Although that seems to be down now as well. Hmmm. Coincidence? I think not. In fact, only the fact that Comment is free is still up on the Guardian site is stopping me from believing that DIMMN's going on a gigantic cyber-rampage, systematically destroying everything he ever built...
  • Benzilla!
  • Wise Wolof. Charming hellhounds.
