Suicide Pact Observed In a tale strangely reminiscent of Harold and Maude a 106 year old woman and her 30 year old caretaker died together in their apartment. "They left notes dated Dec. 27 indicating that Lund had strangled the widow when she decided she couldn't take her own life, then swallowed a fatal dose of antifreeze, police said."
  • (i love that the dateline for MoFi is 4pm for me....)
  • In a strangely similar story Mummified body found in front of TV. In both cases, the caregives did what was the opposite of socially acceptable in order to satisfy the final wishes of their charges. It's hard to say if living with a mummy or drinking antifreeze would be worse.
  • make that caregivers
  • How sad. Yet imagine being 106 and being in control of your own faculties. I can't imagine. Assuming that it was a double suicide, not murder, of course. /cynic
  • I have made it halfway through eleven suicide pacts.
  • You never see anything through, bernockle.
  • I myself have twice succeeded in attempting suicide. You first, bernockle.
  • Actually I would argue that Lund strangled the widow on her own accord, and that her acceptance of suicide led him to acceptance of his own. Basically what Gladwell states happens in teens in Micronesia in The Tipping Point. This is not to say suicide is acceptable, but that it's that form of social proof that led him to take his own. Or maybe I've just been reading too many books on the psychology of influence.
  • Dear god that is so depressing, and oddly romantic. .
  • yup
  • Alternative explanation: The kids didn't want to see the 30 year old get the old lady's inheritance, so cooked up the whole thing (murdering both of them and making it look like a double-suicide). Clearly, I've been watching too many crime shows
  • "check this this my shit cuz i ain't no hola back girl" no i Ain't no hola back girl" blogger
