"How much money would it take for you to kill a puppy with your bare hands?"
QT, NSFW.
The consensus is somewhere between fifty cents and a trillion bucks.
"A child I could see myself doing more than the puppy..."
Stick to it to the end; people get called on their answers.
So how much would it take YOU?
BTW, link number 225 ya'll!
Okay, that's enough derailing.
Let's assume it's the puppy in that video.
I'm not precisely sure how much it would take for me to kill it.
Is it a HEALTHY puppy? What if it had the croup?
Depends on the puppy and who is already attached to it/the puppies future prospects/etc.
For example: I would need a massive sum to kill a child's pet, the idea being that I could use the money for a greater-good purpose.
No freaking way
Not evn for 1 trillion dollars!?! (Assuming it wouldn't cause some problematic inflation issue or some such.)
Gimme $50000 and I'm right there, strangling that shitzu. Drop and Kick dogs, I call 'em. Although I'd prefer that it be a fully grown shitzu. The tiny shitzus, before they get all drooly and stupid and matted with shit are kinda solf and floppy and su--OH GAWD I CAN'T DO IT, I CAN'T OH GAWD
This is a repost.
btw, gimme $5 and that dogs dead.
Well assuming they weren't filming me and I wouldn't have to worry about legal implications...about a $1000.
Save the cute animals!
Fifty-cent girl is awesome because she at least faked wanting to do it.
could you kill my
Shitzu? (self link)
I'm sorry, but thats just wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. No amount of money, no amount of threats could get me to kill another animal. Neocons, on the other hand...
This is a repost
Also it is fucking sick.
Did I mention that this is a repost?
No. No you didn't.
Well, it is. It is a repost.
For example: I would need a massive sum to kill a child's pet, the idea being that I could use the money for a greater-good purpose.
Raskolnikov! How's it hanging? I haven't seen you since that night at the bar. Man was I drunk. How's things with that goody-goody you were dating, whatsername...Sonya? Hey, how's school? Are you a doctor yet?
Man, you don't look so good...

See, this is a trick question because in real life I would strangle the person that asked me to kill a puppy for free!
Mrs quidnunc tells me that if I touch her puppies she'll strangle my chicken's neck.
All of you, with the exception of the chicken-choking quidnunc, are now fired.
Clean out your desks, you will be escorted from the building presently.
This is a riposte.
swear that I checked on this one too... ah well, the 225 mark sullied terribly...
Now mrs quidnunc tells me that you forked her clove and now it's covered with your tofu :(
$500,000. For $500,000 I might even do two for the price of one.
But only if I'm not being taxed on it.
this was posted before. and my answer still the same, yes I would...for 500
Nice to see again that casual cruelty can still be purchased on the open market.
And casual moral superiority is even cheaper!
;)
don't get mad. it's all in fun. I'm the worst of the lot, since I PAY people to let me kill their puppies...
Casual moral superiority? free to good home :)
So the question is how much should I be paid to masturbate?
I'll kill your bleedin' puppy. I'll dress it in my ex-girlfriend's wedding dress and throw it down a bleedin' hole in the internets, I will.
I don't know, $50,000 is an awful lot of money.
But yeah, I guess i'd pay.
what?
This is the only topic that's ever appeared on MoFi that I've resented.
I've killed other creatures for nothing more than a meal. How is a puppy any different, morally speaking?
I should qualify that by saying I still wouldn't do it, unless I desparately needed money.
Rocket88: one of my top causes in life is to end animal suffering at the hands of humans, but yes, what is so different about killing a puppy than killing a chicken? Pig? Pigs are said to be wildly intelligent.
I'd do it, but I'd have to research how much it'd cost ya. It doesn't cost a whole lot of money to help/save one animal life; I'm not sure how many animal lives I'd require myself to save in exchange for ending one puppy's.
Rocket88, it's not really any different. This is one of the reasons I don't eat meat. I don't feel I have any business eating anything I wouldn't kill with my own hands. I might kill to survive, but certainly not for any amount of money.
Tracicle: How much money would it take for you to delete a repost with your bare hands?
NOTHING!!
Kind of off topic, but if you are a vegetarian for moral reasons (as opposed to just not liking meat--I've had two different acquaintences who became vegetarians based purely on taste), is it morally acceptable for you to dine at a restaurant that serves meat, even if you just order a veggie burger? I mean, you're still supporting the killing of animals, albeit indirectly, by supporting an estabilshment that as part of its business kills animals. Do vegetarians generally give such considerations much thought?
It seems as though it'd be incredibly difficult to be a morally consistent vegetarian in Western society. Or at least in the Southern U.S., where you can't swing a possum by the tail without hitting a rendering plant...
This is a fencepost!
dang! this guy is a good photographer!
Of course, it's also incredibly difficult to be morally consistent if you happen to be a human being. . .
Exactly, mercurious. Life feeds on life. Feed or be fed to something else. Whether you're chewing on a carrot or chewing on a pork chop, you're still taking another life to support your own.

I ain't killin' any critter before it's full-grown.
Of course the logical answer is that you should kill the puppy and use the proceeds to save other puppies from destruction at the pound. I am guessing a few hundred dollars is enough to save a puppy from destruction.
Does that mean that when you spend $1,000 on a new computer you are killing three puppies?
Internets is puppies!
What in the hell? This is a freakin' comedy sketch! About half of you are taking this way too seriously. Stop talking about moral superiority and casual cruelty, because no one is ever going to come up to you and give you a giant cheque for killing a puppy on the street.
(That giant cheque is pretty cool, though. I gotta get me one of those.)
I thought the point of the video is to demonstrate that our morality is often emotional and situational, not logical and absolute. Was this made by philosophy undergraduates?
I spent some time actually thinking seriously about this. It's a good exercise. Also, about a person. Someone you know? A child? A pet belonging to someone you know? A very, very sick animal or person?
A random, healthy puppy, for no more reason than that someone offered to pay me money to do it would require at least six figures for me. On the other hand, I can imagine being a vet or vet assistant that did it as part of my job (if it seemed necessary).
My own pet who was healthy (and I just lost my cat of 14 years last week)? Maybe seven figures, even. Maybe not at all, although it's hard to guess how I'd react in the real situation.
Another person, random? Seven figures, at least. An evil person? Much, much less...even gratis, perhaps, depending upon how evil I thought they were.
In general, it's hard to imagine a sum of money large enough that could possibly compensate for doing something that is deeply morally repugnant to me and would without a doubt incur a huge amount of guilt and shame as a cost.
But, oddly and tellingly, many many people do these sorts of things all the time for free. Many of them would, upon considering it, give answers similar to mine. So how is it that there's so much violence and killing in the world?
(Part of the answer to my question is in my fourth paragraph, right?)
BUHLEETED!
Why be so materialistic when you can kill puppies for satan?
somebody call me?, oh, nevermind
Digg thread: US Soldier throws puppy off cliff (video)
While I don't defend what this antisocial fuck did (nor all that surprised), I'm still way more outraged by the whole torturing-people thing. Sorry.
Just wait...this will get much more press and outraged reaction than the torture of humans. People who shrugged at Abu Ghraib will be calling for this guy's head.
Looking at the comments, I don't recall anyone calling for Al-Gonzo to be shot in the face.
Oh, Rocket, it's absolutely amazing what people say. Dogs help us if they really want to put their money where their mouth is.
I read a blog that is concerned with rescue horses and overbreeding animals that have poor conformation or no pedigree papers. They will also criticize folks that let their kids ride without a helmet or do things they consider unsafe. (Some things are, some things I disagree with, but whatever.) The things these "horsie lovers" say about their fellow human beings disgust me. I don't like slaughterhouses, but saying someone that sends a horse through a sale ring should be killed is a bit much.
People can relate to the puppy, they cannot relate to wars or torturing people. That is just human psychology. Hence, they get upset about the puppy and not about torturing people in Abu Ghraib. (although plenty of people who saw the pictures of the atrocities did, indeed, get pretty upset)
Sociopathy is rife in our society, and sociopaths gravitate to positions where they can exercise their desires freely.
