Biologists as Victims of Communism. An interesting piece about T.D. Lysenko.
Some people see similarities in the US (but maybe the analogy is being abused.)
There's a difference of degree, at least. Perhaps there's a correlation between authoritarianism and rubbish science - Bush intervenes at the margins, the Russians had Lysenko, but the Nazis had the Welteislehre whose rich nuttiness is hard to beat.
