Employees at the Providence Public Library are fuming. Staff at this public library in the US have set up a website to state their side of the case and gather support from the public as they face unemployment or significant changes in working conditions. As a library worker myself, I can only sympathise with them.
* Outside consultants also recommended huge annual raises for administrators (up to 12%)
* Administration insists that layoffs are the only way to balance budget
Aha -- thus the source of the library's dismal earnings this quarter. Stockholders are pleased with the recommendation.

Coincidentally, I've just been reading about the bitter dispute and subsequent lawsuit at the Providence Athenaeum. Evidently it's not been a good year for the town's libraries.
