Etymologic
- try a quick multiple-choice guess-the-etymology game.
Betcha don't know the origin of "Amazon".
Wow, 7 out of 10...surprising!
And no, I don't know the origin of "Amazon"...
That was fun. I did okay, but I was really just guessing. I did well with the phrases and poorly with the words.
I think they make half this shit up.
3 of 10 on the first try, which is slightly better than guessing. Nearly suicidal I though I best try it again and I rather love linguistics. On the second go it was 8 of 10, and should have been 9 of 10 but I talked myself out of one I knew. I was trying to work the test rather than my knowledge.
Now I'll spend the rest of the night playing in search of that perfect 10 of 10 game so that I may declare myself Verbal Trivia Master of the Universe and sleep well.
With such a title I'll expect my peons to grunt me a good morning and deliver me a mimosa and jelly doughnuts in bed. Not that I like jelly doughnuts. They just have trouble understanding my requests with their meager language skills and didn't hear "nubile virgins" correctly.
I got 9 out of 10. but that sort of thing is right up my alley.
Did ok but I suspect that languagehat might have found some room for contention here.
9 out of 10 -- it got me on rankle.
7 of 10.
ehh...
I too got 9 out of 10. That rankle gets around.
8. I wrongly assumed that they would follow the incorrect but popular derivation of 'posh'...
9. Foiled by a Cape Cod turkey.
Tons of fun, thanks fish tick.

7/10. Apparently I know very little of maidens, cocktails, and pandering.

note to self: don't invite the underpants monster and friends to next mixed-drinks party
8/10 - medieval French terms trip me up. Not that this is a problem on a day-to-day basis.
9/10 nifty.
9/10. The Devil tripped me up.
Ugh 3/10, "Miserable".
*clak* take 2!
7/10, "Good".
Ugh.
